Snapshot of Youth Social Entrepreneurship Projects
1. Solid Waste Management
Solid Waste Management is a project of the students of Vocational Training Institute Jhang, The project is designed to carry out multiple activities for reduction, collection and management of the solid waste. During the first stage, students carried out a behavior change campaign in their communities to reduce and reuse home waste creatively. During the second stage, the students built partnership with local Mills to transfer organic waste to manure. During the third stage, students sell inorganic waste to factories and also use inorganic for earth filling purposes. This project has also won Regional Competition organized by British Council in 2009.
2. Cultivation of Mushroom Growth
Cultivation of Mushroom Growth is a project of the students of Government College of Technology, Naushehra. This project was launched to address nutrition and balanced food deficiency through mushroom growth. The project developed critical awareness among masses to use mushroom for addressing nutrition deficiency and income generation. The team of the students cultivated and sold mushroom to low-income families to improve their health and well-being.
3. Youth Guidance Network
Youth Guidance Network was launched by the students of Government College of Technology Multan. The project aimed at addressing a gap existing in the area of youth career guidance. The students adopted innovative ways to provide career guidance to students so that they can pursue their careers in the right direction and maximize their potential. The students used peer counseling, seminars, CD’s and job fairs methods for counseling.
4. Honey Production
Honey Production is a project of the students of Government Poly Technical Institute, Rawlakot. The project was launched to provide pure honey to local communities and to assist poor families in income generation. The students provided bees to 40 households at a very low cost. The households prepared and placed wooden houses for bees in their premises. The project assisted both students and households in generating income by selling pure honey in the market.
5. Recycle and Reuse
of Used Papers is a project of the students of Government Poly Technical Institute, Rawlakot. The project aimed at saving trees and improving the environment. During the first stage, the students collected used papers from the schools, colleges, offices and houses. During the second stage, used papers stored at collection point were used to make envelopes and reaming for recycling and decoration pieces.
6. Recycling of the Refrigerant Gases
Recycling of the Refrigerant Gases is a project of the students of Govt. Advance Technical Training Center Peshawar. The project is launched to protect environment from the damaging effect of Chloro- Flouro –Carbon. The students noticed that Small and big workshops involved in repair of refrigerant and air conditioning equipments discharge a significant quantity of CFC in the open air continuously which is causing damage to ozone layer and resultantly to human health. They decided to provide special bags to shops for storing the used gas. Then the students recycled collected gas through a machine by removing the impurities. The cleaned gas is sold to the user at a lower cost than dealers.
7. Mehran Career Club
Mehran Career Club is a project of the students of Mehran College of Commerce and Computer Sciences. The project is launched by the students to provide counseling services to other students. There is no career guidance club at the moment in Mirpur and students are facing many problems in deciding about their future. The project provides valuable guidance regarding the selection of subjects and careers to students in a friendly manner.
8. Recycling of Used and Wasted Clothes and Papers
Recycling of Used and Wasted Clothes and Papers is a project of the students of Govt. Poly Technique Institute Kotli AJK. The projects engages girls and women from low-income families who are trained in stitching but do not have any platform to use their skills for income generation. The students collect waste material from tailor shops and houses to handover trained girls and women for making bed spread/ cushions/ table runner/home decoration items by the process of recycling.
9. Combat the Deficiency of Pure Drinking Water
Combat the Deficiency of Pure Drinking Water is a project of the students of Government Poly Technical Institute Karak. The project is launched to meet a critical need of pure water of the local community. Due to absence of pure drinking water, community members of all ages are facing serious health problems. The students are establishing a water filtration plant in the community to provide clean water to the community at a very low cost.
10. Improving Sanitation System
Improving Sanitation System is a project of the students of Government College of Technology Multan. The project aims at installing a water treatment plant for both storing and purifying polluted water. The students are installing a system in the community through which they will ensure that water is purified before usage for agriculture and home use.
11. Reuse of Old Electronic Parts
Reuse of Old Electronic Parts is a project the students of Government College of Technology Multan. The students felt that due to tremendous increase in usage of electronic items, the need and demand for repair of electronics and environmental protection have also increased. The students will establish a workshop where they will train young people from poor families in reusing electronic devices. The students will first purchase the defected electronics by weight from dealers and then reuse them to make small electronic items.
12. Stitching Center for trained girls
Stitching Center for trained girls is a project of the students of Govt. Vocational Training Institute Rahim Yar Khan. The students noted that there are large number of young girls passing out from different technical institutions every year but they do not have resources and platform to use their skills for their livelihood. The students are establishing a stitching center for these girls to help them to create things and sell them in the market. The stitching center will provide them the material and tools. In return these girls will pay a nominal amount to the center for its sustainability.
13. Construction of Low-cost Fabricated Houses
Construction of Low-cost Fabricated Houses is a project of the students of Government Skill Development Center Balakot. Balakot is a disaster –prone area and Government of Pakistan has declared it as a red zone area. The local community is very afraid of making brick houses due to devastating loss during the last earthquake. The students have decided to construct low-cost fabricated houses to provide a cost effective way to local community members to build their houses. These houses have the capacity to bear and protect people from any natural disasters such as earthquake.
14. Recycling of Plastic
Construction of Low-cost Fabricated Houses is a project of the students of Government Vocational Training Institute Khanewal. The project is designed to reduce and reuse plastic items to improve the environment of the community. The students are very concerned about the growing degradation of environment in their communities due to excessive use of plastic. The students have launched the project to collect and reuse plastic for creating small items of daily use.
15. Construction of Low-cost Fabricated Houses
Construction of Low-cost Fabricated Houses is a project of the students of Vocational Training Institute Green Town Lahore. Hepatitis is spreading very fast in the country. Most of the people from poor families have no means to seek diagnostic services for Hepatitis. The projects aim at setting-up a small diagnostic centre to recommend the affected persons to get treatment from the hospital and to guide unaffected persons about the preventive measures from this disease.
16. Evacuate Plastic Bags
Evacuate Plastic Bags is a project of the students of Vocational Training Institute Jhang. The project aims at evacuate plastic bags from the society for environmental protection. The project aims at establishing an enterprise that makes low-cost paper and fabric bags with innovation for regular use to provide a healthy alternate to people. They are also running a campaign in the community to inform people about the hazards of using plastic bags. For their health and well-being.
17. Establishment of a “Software Solution Center”
Establishment of a “Software Solution Center” with a comprehensive software library and computer lab, where students will obtain information related to their studies through different softwares and will be provided facilities of browsing, surfing and downloading respectively. 18. Establishment of a Career Club
Establishment of a Career Club, where students will get support about their career counseling, studies, jobs and future planning. The career club will arrange career counseling workshops, quarterly counseling sessions and annual seminars. The club will also provide facilities to students such as e-library, internet facility, books library and news and information sharing. (Mehran College of Commerce and Computer Sciences, Mirpur)
19. Establishment of a nursery in Kotli, Azad Kashmir
Establishment of a nursery in Kotli, Azad Kashmir, which will cultivate and supply different kinds of plants and seeds to other nurseries, institutions and individual. This nursery will cultivate and supply plants at low cost as recently, plants are transported from other provinces, which is very costly and they do not sustain for a long time. (V.T.I, Kotli)
20. Cultivation of vegetables in Rawlakot, A.J.K
Cultivation of vegetables in Rawlakot, A.J.K, in order to provide fresh supply of home grown vegetables to the people. Recently, vegetables are transported from the Punjab province, which is very costly and not fresh. This project will supply fresh vegetables to poor families at low cost and will also provide income generation opportunity to unemployed people. (Poly Technical Institution, Rawlakot)
21. Establishment of a fish farm in Rawlakot
Establishment of a fish farm in Rawlakot, in order to provide fresh fish to people at low cost. Recently, there is no fish farm in Rawlakot and its surrounding areas. Fish is transported from far off areas and is sold in market at high price. People are unable to get fresh fish at low price. The fish farm will buy small fish from other farms, will grow them here and will sell them to the people at reasonable price. (G.P.I, Rawlakot)
22. Online Franchise
Online Franchise is a project of the students of Vocational Training Institute Jamal din Wali. The project is launched to provide on line jobs to youth. The project provides income generation opportunities to young people at their door steps. The students have established linkages with the online jobs company to share job related information with young people.
